How It All Began

On August 13, Epic did something interesting. They updated the Fortnite app with a new feature that allowed gamers to pay Epic directly for in-app currency. That currency was sold at a discount compared to what Apple’s App Store was charging via their payment process. This was a loophole method that, in theory, allowed Epic to avoid Apple’s fee for in-app sales (30% of the sale). Avoiding this fee went against Apple’s policy, and this feature was implemented in the Android version as well, going against Google’s similar Play Store policy. …
